JBL’s subwoofers are universally loved. However, they’re not exactly cheap, and as you go up the price range, you’ll realize that you don’t get as big of a jump in performance compared to how much more you’re paying for.

This is why we’re recommending the JBL CS1214, as it combines performance with price.

With a 250-watt RMS power and a 1,000-watt maximum power, the CS1214 is a great subwoofer for those building their first competition-grade sound systems or want to make their setup a bit louder. The best part is that this 12-inch subwoofer looks good. This is thanks mostly to its stylish polypropylene cone fitted with a rubber surround.

What Features to Consider When Choosing a Competition Subwoofer

Power

Competition-grade subwoofers are powerful, with peak power ratings usually over 1,000 watts and an RMS power rating somewhere around 200-300, at the very least.

When choosing an amplifier, it should produce around 100 to 150% of the subwoofer’s RMS power rating to prevent complications.

Size

12-inch subwoofers are the ideal size if you don’t want to sacrifice a lot of space but don’t want to give up on performance either. But, if you want more power, 15-inch subwoofers are the way to go. But, if you’re new to competition-grade subwoofers, we recommend sticking with 12-inch subwoofers or even 10-inch subwoofers.

Cost

A cheap subwoofer doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll perform badly. In fact, they’re an excellent choice if you’re building your first competition set-up. This is because you can buy multiple cheap subwoofers for the price of one expensive subwoofer and enjoy better performance. Also, since they’re cheap, you won’t feel the cost as much if you break them or problems.

If, however, you have significant experience with multiple configurations and know what you want, that’s the time you get the more expensive subwoofers.

More expensive subwoofers don’t necessarily perform better, but they are made out of better materials. As a result, they can maintain their performance for a longer time. Also, the chances of distortion are minimized because of the quality of their materials, and they’re less likely to deform due to constant use.

Additional Tips:

  • If you want to buy the best competition subwoofer for deep bass, you need to prepare ample budget for a proper amplifier. This way, you can put more power into your subwoofers without worrying if they’re pulling power from your other car components.
  • Proper subwoofer and speaker placement is just as important as quality. Ideally, you’ll want to place your subwoofers between the speakers. You should also place smaller speakers in the corners of your car.
  • Car audio capacitors might be necessary to help alleviate the stress on your car’s battery. They can act as the battery for both your subwoofer and amplifier.
  • If it’s your first time installing a competition subwoofer, consult a professional. Better yet, have it install them. You can help out, if you want, but it’s always better to have a professional take care of the installation process.

Conclusion

Installing a high-competition grade subwoofer for deep bass will really turn some heads! You’ll feel the difference almost instantaneously. And so will your neighbors – expect to get some angry phone calls!

Kidding aside, these subwoofers will help you turn heads during the next car meet-up! Loud, powerful, and made out of high-quality materials, these competition subwoofers will give you a chance to feel that deep bass you’ve always wanted!

Enjoy!
