I’d hazard to say that car speakers are the factor you should look at most in your quest to build the best sound system for your vehicle.There are basically various car speakers sizes – 6X9 , 6X8 , 6.5 , 5×7 , 5.25. These are the most common speaker sizes and the difference between them is pretty self-explanatory,but I’ll go ahead and give it to you since I like making things clear,and I’ve got the time.

Basically,a car speaker size is measured depending on the size of its woofer.And the bigger the better.And Because large speakers have bigger woofers ,they tend to perform very well in low frequencies reproduction, which results in better sound quality.Don’t get me wrong here,we’ve come across several smaller speakers that do very well in terms of sound quality and performance as well.

So,we’ve decided to dig deeper,look beneath the surface and review some of the best 5.25 speakers on the market.We won’t simply pinpoint those speakers without actually telling you why they’re worth the money; just keep reading and we’ll tell you.

Polk Audio DB521We have reviewed a ton of Polk Audio speakers on this site before,and the story hasn’t changed. Polk Audio produces a quality product at a fair price.Almost all their speakers are marine certified, which means they can withstand harsh environments.You can mount them in your car , in your boat as well as in an offroad vehicle.They also pass industry’s toughest standards and ultimate stress tests including drop testing,sun and salt exposure as well as shock and vibration tests to simulate the most demanding road conditions.

If you’re looking for a small set of speakers and want to keep the costs to a minimum while getting the best value for your buck , we can’t think of a better option for a set of speakers than DB521.As for the downsides,it’s really difficult to think of any.If anything,I’d say the narrow frequency range doesn’t reach as low as some 5.25 we’ve reviewed.

Polk Audio  MM521If you’re very picky and only pick the best, you might want to consider the MM521.It’s also 5.1/4 in size.The MM521 is a more advanced and it offers rock solid reliability, advanced looks and ultra high performance.At around $135, the price isn’t anything to sneeze at, but these are very well-engineered speakers, and they will revitalize your overall listening experience for many years to come.What caught our attention the most about the MM521 is its impressive power handling which is the highest among all the speakers in this lineup.The MM521 speakers are truly the best 5.25 car speakers we’ve come across.

Infinity Reference 5032cf 5-1*4We have done a few reviews on Infinity products before;mostly speakers and subs because that’s what we think they do best.They offer some great products for more than a reasonable price.They offer various different sizes and prices for their speakers.Although the 5032cf feature a Plus One+ woofer design intended to boost low-frequency punch,we’ve found that its frequency response is still lacking,so the bass might not sound the same as with speakers that can reach deeper frequency response.

The 5032cf features edge-driven textile dome tweeters that can be rotated to broadcast towards you for the best soundstage.With the level control,you’ll also be able to adjust the tweeters’s sound to maximize stereo effect.

Infinity Kappa 529iInfinity also offers another advanced 5-1/4 2-way speakers with high performance at a reasonable price – the Infinity Kappa 52.9i.So what’s the difference between the Kappa 52.9i and the Reference 5032cf? They’re actually priced about the same,$55 and $72 respectively. That’s more or less the same market.However,in terms of performance,The latter is far more valuable than the former.The best feature about these speakers is their sensitivity rating coming in at 94dB which is actually the highest for 5.25 speakers.That means,they can convert power applied to them into sound in a very efficient way (Sensitivity is a critical key spec to be aware of when you’re shopping for new car speakers.)

The only critique of this set is its relatively low sensitivity rating of 89dB.These speakers will sound great when paired to an aftermarket stereo, but they’ll really shine out when driven by a powerful external amplifier.

Pioneer A-Series speakers come in various sizes and configurations.They’re available in coaxial as well as in component designs,6×9 ,6.5 and 5.25 in size.Their impressive sound quality is the result of a well-balanced combination of build materials, technologies and a well grounded experience in this industry.We’ve been a big fan of Pioneer products.Pioneer has really mastered the art of providing top-notch products including speakers,aftermarket receivers,touchscreen car stereos…etc.In short, these guys do everything, and they do it very well.


JBL GTO528 2-Way Loudspeaker

JBL GTO528GTO speakers are considered to be the best car speakers that JBL has to offer.They come in various sizes,designs and configuration.The speakers linked to above are one of the most economical efficient speakers out there given their specifications.They can handle 45 watts RMS,their power handling isn’t the best or worst.It’s acceptable given that the woofers aren’t that big.Their Sensitivity rating on the other hand is impressive.That means,these speakers do respond effectively to power.

The JBL GTO528 is an excellent set of speakers despite its relatively narrow frequency range of 67 – 21 kHz.So don’t expect too much well-rounded bass notes from these speakers.However,the mid-ranges and highs are where they actually stand out!
